That's great actually!
No, really! I might look a little bit grumpy up there but that's just because your inquiry most likely arrived when
I was right in the middle of creating artwork. But that's ok because I took some time to put together this little website
on which you'll find all the information you'll need to figure out if a commission will work for you concerning timing
and budget. So, while I go back to work, please take a couple of minutes to read through the information below and then, if you want, we can take
the next step and create an awesome set of Steam capsules for your project!
What does it cost?
That's really the central question that makes or brakes a potential collaboration so let's get that out of the way first!
I'm working based on a 300€ daily rate and the average Steam capsules commission takes me 3 days to complete.
The fastest commission so far took me two days and the longest was 5 days. The amount of work that has to go into
your capsule artwork depends on the complexity of the elements (e.g. number of characters, complicated architectural vs.
generic natural background, etc.) and can be greatly influenced if I'm able to use 3D assets from your production. I like
to use a hybrid 2D/3D workflow when possible and if I don't have to construct the highly detailed spaceship you need in your capsule
artwork myself, that's so much less work! Before we can assess things like these, please assume that you'll need to
calculate about 900€ for a commission.
You can pay via Paypal or via wire transfer (for which I'd provide you with an IBAN). For payment via Paypal I have to add 5% to my invoice amount
in order to cover Paypal's fees. Wire transfer comes without extra costs for you.
By the way, I don't charge anything upfront. You pay when my work is finished and you'll receive your files when your payment has arrived in my account.
What do you get?
After your initial briefing, some discussion and one or more color sketches, I'll create a high resolution key artwork for you that you'll receive as a layered file where it makes sense. That would
look somewhat like this:
Using that artwork, I'll create a Steam capsule layout that includes all Steam capsule formats, which looks like this:
For the layout I can either use a logo that you provide or I can create a logo for you. Please note that creating a logo will add some extra time
to the commission, normally about half a day.
You'll receive the full resolution layout file in Photoshop format and a full set of exported Steam Assets.
From the layout file you can export the assets on your own and if you're using Photoshop, this will actually work at the push of a button (automated via "Save for Web").
My fee includes the exclusive and unlimited rights of use to the artwork that I'm creating. I only reserve the right to show the artwork
in my portfolio when it has been revealed to the public by you.
How long does it take?
That's the most tricky question. I'm doing Steam capsule commissions at the side of larger productions. In general, I'm
assuming that it'll take me one week to work one day on a commission, so depending on the workload of your commission,
it can take me 3 to 4 weeks to finish it.
Another factor is how many commissions I already have lined up. I'm getting quite a bit of inquiries (so many, that I actually
felt the need to set up this info webpage). If I already have commissions lined up when your inquiry reaches me, I can offer
you a spot on a waiting list. The little box that follows displays the month that I currently can offer you to start (!) your
commission.
Next open commission slot:
December 2026
An important note
I reserve the right to reject a commission if I have the feeling that I'm not the right artist for your project. This could be the case
for a couple of reasons. For example, if nothing of your project exists yet, I have a hard time to come up with a good capsule artwork. Please make
sure that there is at least an early version that I can look at.
Also, I'm a bit allergic to AI generated images. I do tolerate them in a briefing/mood
board context but please don't expect me to recreate AI generated compositions or incorporate AI generated "corrections". Also, if your game itself relies heavily on AI generated visuals, I'm probably not the right artist for your capsule artwork.
Alright, how do we get started?
If, after reading all the above information, you decide that you want to go ahead with a commission, the easiest way to get the ball rolling
would be for you to send me a friend request on Discord to "daniellieske". I like to handle my commissions communication over there and hope
that it will also work for you. In case you want to communicate via email, please use this address to contact me:
@daniellieske.com (for
type "mail". Spambots hate this little trick).
Wonderful, I think that should cover the most important points. I'm looking forward to meeting you and learning more
about your project!
